PostSubject: A few questions.   A few questions. I_icon_minitimeFri Aug 31, 2012 9:55 pm

I'm strongly considering building a "hot" M4 RIS, DM type riffle and before I invest into such a gun I have a few questions about EWA policies:

1) Does the gun not being fired in full-auto suffice or must there be a permanent system preventing it from doing so? Worst case scenario I can put a small bolt that prevents the selector switch from rotating to full auto.

2) Is there a certain "sniper qual" one must complete to carry such a gun? If so when is the next one offered and what are the pre-requisites? I didn't see this requirement in the EWA rules.

3) Velocity limit is 600fps with .20's correct?

4) If anyone has any suggestions please PM me, I've thought a little bit about just upgrading my MP5 but decided to keep it where it's at as a CQB weapon. I'd like to work with a $400 budget but I can lean a little.

5) Is it just me or did the prices on redwolf go up? I was looking at some of the G&G and G&Ps.

1) I think an EWA admin should answer that one but from experience if you make a DMR you should retain semi/full firing capabilities and falls under DMR rules for "EWA Games"

DMR (Designated Marksman's Rifle)
This is an event specific, specialty class, so it may not be in use at all EWA events. The DMR is used to extend the effective engagement range of the
squad he/she is attached to, so they MUST travel with a squad at all times. As they are a team weapon position, they are not required (but strongly
encouraged) to carry a back-up or sidearm. DMR is allowed from 400 to 500fps, and have a MINIMUM ENGAGEMENT DISTANCE of 50 feet.

But if you turn the gun into a semi only weapon it shows you can do that under the "sniper rules" but would you really want that or would a 400-500fps DMR be as effective and dump 90$ on some M700 clone put 20-100$ worth of parts into it and have 2 seperate great guns.

Sniper rifles
All bolt action or semi-auto operated replicas ONLY, are limited to 600fps with a MINIMUM ENGAGEMENT DISTANCE OF 100' (FEET). Additionally, ALL SNIPERS
are required to carry a back-up weapon or sidearm UNDER 400fps for engageing targets within their minimum engagement distance. SEVERE PENALTIES WILL BEFALL
ANYONE VIOLATING THEIR M.E.D. WITH A SNIPER RIFLE.

2) Sniper qual for SA (Spokane Airsoft) games yes. EWA games no but you are required to know your engagement distances and follow admins advice/warnings with 400-600fps guns.

3) Yes 400-500 for DMR 600 max for snipers.

4) All comes down to what you are looking for in a gun for a sniper I would go off a bar-10 or a dragonov build personally due to parts real/airsoft for both that are plentiful. DMR building a SR is always the preferred method due to parts availability and the variety you can get. M16 builds work the best in my mind due to length of stock outer barrel and you usually get a full stock which is a plus in my mind.

5) Yes and no on the older stuff they cant really get rid of like outdated marui guns/parts the prices are the same from years ago or have lowered. Newer companies or things that are still wanted in the airsoft market especially G&P have gone up. But the quality is also much better now for just about every airsoft company than when I first started into airsoft some of the older guns were just nightmares straight from the box and cost you the same as most guns nowadays for far less quality.

Thanks Cadian for taking the time, that's quite a book there. I guess my real question is that the different between a field riffle to a DMR and a sniper is kind of vague as far as restrictions between them. It seems that the 400 fps benchmark is non-existant if you can still shoot full auto at 500, despite a larger min engagement distance. If I do something over 400 I think I'd like to hit close to the 600 mark, and make the loss of full auto a worthwhile exchange for range. That's where I'm going with this, I'd like to have the furthest possible range and accuracy, at the expense of ROF if need be. I was also looking into building a ghillie suit.

I was also looking at a few bolt action riffles, like this
http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=378&products_id=7962

(reminds me of the counter-strike days)

But after watching the video, first it looked like he had some difficulty pulling back the bolt, and when he did pull it back it looked like he had to shake it for the bb to fall in lol. And second, I think I want semi-auto on an AEG platform, although I've never used a "hot" bolt-action before and I'd love to try one out. (Flashbacks of the $50 springer gun days are running through my head)

From what I've seen at the barn there is very little opportunity for concealment with the exception of proning in the few areas with taller grass. This is why I like 9-mile so much, there's everything from hills to rocks to heavy brush to dense and light forests all in one field.

Ya it all comes down to personal preference with what you want to do. Personally I dont like dumping more than 250$ into one bolt action sniper due to how little I would use it. Extra money for externals is a different thing, if and when I decide to finally break down and get another sniper quality weapon I will be heading down the road of the G&G G980 most likely for my love of the K98 and its C02 which is easier to modify/work on in my opinion.

Maaan that real wood looks nice but to be honest I'd rather have one without the wood for much less for the same raason I chose to buy a $250 TomTom instead of the $2,000 factory GPS when I got my beamer. I definately see the value for "collectors" but let's face it, I'm looking more for sturdy functionality. Another sniper riffle I was looking at is the Marui VSR-10 which seems to have a lot of upgrade parts available, but right now a semi-auto SR AEG platform still sounds like what I would want to do. Also I should note if I ever get a "gas" gun I'd probably get a propane adapter and just use the walmart propane canisters at less than half the cost of "green gas" or extreme gas. While on the subject if I go the DM/Sniper route I'll also be needing a reliable side-arm, but that's something I can just order and be done with.

Hey Sabin, I forget to tell you that there is a TRAP Practice today at 10:00 at the barn, sorry dude, I totally spaced getting back to you. If you don't make it, it's on me, I take full responsibility. Second thing, Wade is actually selling a DMR, it's a classic army, needs some work, but I think if you have the requisit gunsmithing skill's it'd be a pretty sweet shooter. Also, I might have another friend who is selling his, also an accurate piece of hardwear (I think it's the exact same gun. CA DMR) Which Timmy Chang built for him. Let me double check to see if he's still selling it.

Thx Dave. Kyle PM'd me ahead of time. I think i'm pretty set on Cadian's SR-12 after shooting it.

I prefer something I can wear my glasses under for eye protection, what do u guys think of this?
http://www.evike.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_149&products_id=30641

Below are the silencers I was looking at:

http://www.airsoftgi.com/product_info.php?cPath=30_39&products_id=2360

BB Sampler:

Scope & RIS to ring mount

M150 spring upgrade
http://www.evike.com/product_info.php?products_id=31460

500-600fps is a big gap. From what I understand the stock KWA GX2 re-inforced gearbox and high torque motor should be able to handle it, but prob gonna take it to Travis and see if anything else needs to be changed in the gearbox. Also I can drill a small bolt into the side preventing it from switching to full-auto. All constructive feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Well this is just one guys opinion, but....

Eye wear, most of us rock the stamped steel mesh. Now, stamped steel and mesh are NOT the same thing. Wire mesh...dangerous. Stamped Steel, brilliant! They don't fog which is nice, and fit under anything. Check these badboyz out:

http://bitterendgoggles.com/bitter_end_goggles.htm

Scope: I actually have one that is adjustable from 3-9 power. It does need one mount replaced, which you seem to be on top of anyway. Ask me about it next week.

The general rule with bb's is that you use
2.0's -350fps (CQB guns and pistols)
2.3's for particularly accurate 350 shoots, or if you're playing with people who don't call thier hits.
2.5's - 350-400 fps (Field Guns)
2.7's for particularly accurate field guns, or playing with cheaters
3.0's - DMR and Sniper weapons shooting above 450FPS

Suppressor:
I'd go with the Quick Silver as it extends the barrel but not to a ridiculous length, and has an integral look.

Also I recommend giving Mike a text because like I said, he's selling his...everything, and I think he might have a good amount of what you're looking for. I feel fairly certain he has an appropriate suppressor for your DMR.

Dave,

Those steel mesh are a little pricey. The one I would need is the top one for $100. I think I'm gonna look more in the $15-30 range for something that I can wear glasses under. I've actually never had a fogging problem with eye protection that seals around the eye, it's only the ones that let air in at the bottom that fog for me.

I'll give Mike a call tomorrow. Thanks again for putting me in touch.

I'd like to look at your scope this comming weekend if you're coming to the barn.

As for the BB's the reason I wanted the sampler bags is to try them if I upgrade past 400fps, to see the range difference between the weights when all is said and done. Plus, I'm sure I'd have a use for the lighter ones anyways, still got the MP5 =D. I'm not yet set on buying any of these accessories, but I'm looking at them for price comparisons and reviews, so I have something to compare with for whatever I do end up picking up.

I must say one thing about bitter end products they are a bit pricey but well worth the money. The glasses I rock out there are the chopper fastsrike 40$ seam hi for safety glasses but they are the most comfortable and well crafted for what you pay.

If you are going to go 500+ fps I would just say go with .30 they will give you the best bang for your buck if you don't fire to much. But testing is also a good ideal in case you find something that works better for you.

For suppressor the blackslide is great but due to the threads are at the back of the suppressor it gives the feeling it will snap off if you hit it hard against something. From owning one a while ago the externals are great though it gets marked up easy but is pretty cool for the price.

The suppressor I would buy if I got one next though is actually a UMP style suppressor. Great length, good quality from what I hear and comes with CD capability's out of the box without some stupid locking mechanism.

http://www.evike.com/product_info.php?products_id=35640

Oh ya here is the 650mm barrel I was talking about if you wanted to look its the same I use in my RPK the 650mm 6.03.

Evike is also having a 20% off labor day sale to just FYI but I am sure you saw that.

On the stamped steel or mesh yes they have good pros like not foging but also they are dangerous example cheap bbs shater on impact so for wire and stamped eyepro peace's can get lodged in the eye.

For that reason I only use a lens style eyepro. Your eye are a very important part of your every day life why chance going blind due to a piece of a bb.

I think I might give Madbull a shot Cadian, despite my bias towards prometheus I'll save the $30 for BB's or something =D.

Dave I texted him. Whatever I don't get from Mike I'll grab from Evike, hopefully while they still have the 20% off lol.

KJ that's a good point. While most people use the high grade polished BB's sooner or later there'll be that new kid coming in with his springer sniper shooting deformed .12's because the box says it shoots 550 with them. And I prefer to have a lens with somewhat of a tint anyways.
